India pacer Kranti Gaud has been fined 10 per cent of her match fee for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during the Women’s Asia Cup 2026 final against Sri Lanka in Dubai.
The incident took place during the opening over of Sri Lanka’s innings, shortly after Gaud dismissed opener Imesha Dulani. The Indian fast bowler gestured towards the pavilion following the dismissal, which was deemed to have breached the ICC's rules regarding actions or gestures that could provoke an aggressive reaction from a dismissed batter.
Gaud Admits Offence and Accepts Sanction
Gaud was charged under Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel.
The provision covers the use of language, actions or gestures that disparage or could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter after their dismissal during an international match.
The India pacer admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Supriya Rani Das of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees.
As a result, no formal hearing was required.
The sanction also includes one demerit point on Gaud’s disciplinary record. It was her first offence under the ICC Code of Conduct in a 24-month period.
Level 1 Breach Carries Up to 50 Per Cent Fine
Level 1 breaches of the ICC Code of Conduct carry penalties ranging from an official reprimand to a fine of up to 50 per cent of a player's match fee.
Players can also receive one or two demerit points depending on the offence.
Gaud was charged by the match officials following the incident, with on-field umpires Saleema Imtiaz and Shathira Jakir Jesy, third umpire Rokeya Sultana and fourth umpire Humaira Farah all involved in the process.
India Beat Sri Lanka to Win Eighth Asia Cup
The disciplinary action came just after India produced a dominant performance in the Women’s Asia Cup final.
India defeated Sri Lanka by 72 runs in the summit clash to claim the continental title for a record-extending eighth time.
The victory capped a successful campaign for the Indian team, although the post-match trophy presentation also attracted significant attention after the champions did not attend the ceremony to collect the trophy.
Pakistan Also Fined for Slow Over-Rate
Pakistan were separately sanctioned following their Women’s Asia Cup semi-final against Sri Lanka.
Pakistan were fined five per cent of their players’ match fees for maintaining a slow over-rate during the match on Friday.
The team was found to have bowled one over short of the required rate after time allowances were taken into account.
Pakistan captain Fatima Sana admitted the offence and accepted the proposed sanction, meaning no formal hearing was required.
Under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct, players are fined five per cent of their match fee for every over their team fails to complete within the allotted time.
The charge was levelled by the match officials, with Vrinda Rathi and Shathira Jakir Jesy serving as on-field umpires, Rokeya Sultana as third umpire and Rabab Ahsan as fourth umpire.
