Is Parimatch legal in India in Nov 2026?
The answer splits in two: the player and the platform. For the player, Parimatch is legal to use across most of India. Indian gambling law has always targeted operators and gaming houses rather than individual punters, and the newest national law keeps that structure.
Parimatch dates back to 1994 and accepts Indian customers in rupees under a Curaçao Gaming Control Board licence (OGL/2024/1329/0629). That licence is valid internationally but carries no Indian authority, and India does not license offshore sportsbooks. In practice, Parimatch is open to Indian players without being authorised to operate in India.
What the Online Gaming Act 2025 changed
The Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act became law in August 2025, and its rules were notified in April 2026. The Act prohibits offering, operating, facilitating and advertising online money games, a definition that covers real-money cricket betting.
Platforms that offer or facilitate money games face up to 3 years in prison and a ₹1 crore fine. Advertising them carries up to 2 years and ₹50 lakh. Banks and payment systems are barred from processing transactions tied to these platforms. Constitutional challenges to the Act now sit with the Supreme Court, and no interim relief has paused it.
Why players are not the target
The Act creates no offence for simply placing a bet. When the bill was introduced, the government described players as victims of money gaming rather than offenders, and the penalty clauses list service providers, advertisers, promoters and financiers.
That is why the answer to "is Parimatch legal or illegal in India" stays legal for players at the national level, even though the platform itself is unlicensed in India.
Is Parimatch banned in India?
No law names Parimatch, and Indian players can still register, deposit and bet on the platform. The brand is, however, the subject of one of the largest betting investigations in the country.
The Enforcement Directorate opened a money-laundering case in August 2025, searching 17 locations, seizing more than 1,200 credit cards and freezing ₹110 crore held in alleged mule accounts. Further searches followed in May 2026 and September 2026, when another ₹37 crore was frozen. The ED alleges Parimatch collected around ₹3,000 crore from Indian users in 2023-24. These are allegations that have not been tested in court, and the probe targets the payment network and its operators, not customers.
What the ED probe means for Parimatch players
The case matters to bettors mostly through payments. According to the ED, Indian deposits were routed through around 500 bank accounts registered to e-commerce and payment businesses, and some withdrawals were paid out from other users' deposits in several small tranches.
Two practical consequences follow:
- Deposits go to third-party accounts: a UPI deposit may show a merchant name that has nothing to do with Parimatch
- Frozen accounts cause delays: when an investigator freezes a collecting account, pending deposits or withdrawals routed through it can stall
Keep screenshots of every deposit and withdrawal, including the UPI reference number. If a payment fails or goes missing, that record is what Parimatch support will ask for.
States with stricter rules on Parimatch
National law leaves players alone, but a few states criminalise online betting for everyone involved, including the bettor.
| State | Law | Covers players? |
|---|---|---|
| Telangana | Gaming (Amendment) Act 2017 bans all online betting and gambling | Yes |
| Andhra Pradesh | 2020 amendment to the AP Gaming Act bans online betting | Yes |
| Tamil Nadu | Prohibition of Online Gambling Act 2022 | Yes |
| Assam and Odisha | Older gambling laws broadly prohibit betting for stakes | Treat as restricted |
| Karnataka | 2021 online betting ban struck down by the High Court in 2022 | No separate state offence |
| All other states | No state-level online betting offence for players | No |
If you live in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh or Tamil Nadu, do not open a Parimatch account. State rules can change faster than national ones, so check the current position in your state before your first deposit.
Is Parimatch safe to use in India?
Parimatch safety and legality verdict
Safety comes down to two questions: is your data protected, and does your money come back. On the first, Parimatch performs well. The site runs on 256-bit SSL encryption, accounts are verified through KYC, and the brand has more than 30 years of history in sports betting.
The second question is where the ED case comes in. Indian users generally report smooth INR deposits and bank transfer withdrawals within 2 to 24 hours once verified, but payment routing through third-party accounts means occasional delays are part of the picture. Withdrawals are usually limited to bank transfer, with a ₹500 minimum.
Because Parimatch has no Indian registration, no domestic regulator handles complaints. Disputes go through Parimatch support and, beyond that, the Curaçao licensing authority.
- No central law penalises Indian players for betting on Parimatch
- Operating history back to 1994 with a Curaçao licence
- INR accounts with UPI, PhonePe, Google Pay and Paytm from ₹300
- Deposit limits, cooling-off periods and self-exclusion tools
- No Indian registration, so no domestic regulator handles complaints
- ED money-laundering probe has frozen accounts in its payment network
- Online betting is banned for players in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu
- Winnings are taxed at 30% and Parimatch does not deduct it at source
Is Parimatch real or fake?
Parimatch is a real bookmaker. The brand launched in Kyiv in 1994, and the ED describes the India-facing operation as Cyprus-headquartered. What is fake are the many copycat sites built around its name.
Search results for Parimatch are crowded with lookalike domains and Telegram "agents" offering deposit help or guaranteed tips. These clones copy the login page to collect passwords, UPI PINs and card details. Only use the official Parimatch domain, never send money to a personal UPI ID that an agent shares, and never share an OTP with anyone claiming to be support.
Is the Parimatch app legal in India?
The Parimatch app has the same legal status as the website: usable by players outside the restricted states, unlicensed on the operator side. The Android app is an APK of around 51 MB downloaded from the official site, since the Play Store does not list real-money betting apps for India. iOS users get a web app added to the home screen instead of a native download.
A sideloaded APK is standard for most offshore IPL betting apps, so the format itself is not a warning sign. The source is what matters. Install the APK only from the official Parimatch domain, not from a file forwarded on WhatsApp or Telegram.
No betting app carries central government approval. "Legal betting apps in India" describes apps players can use without penalty, a category that includes Parimatch and the other cricket betting apps Indian bettors use.
Can you deposit and withdraw on Parimatch from India?
Yes. Parimatch accepts INR through the payment apps most Indian bettors already use, and its ₹300 minimum deposit puts it alongside the cheapest low deposit betting sites available to Indian players.
| Payment method | Minimum deposit | Maximum deposit | Deposit time |
|---|---|---|---|
| UPI | ₹300 | ₹30,000 | Instant |
| PhonePe | ₹300 | ₹30,000 | Instant |
| Paytm | ₹300 | ₹50,000 | Instant |
| Google Pay | ₹300 | ₹30,000 | Instant |
| USDT | 10 USDT | No set limit | Up to 15 mins |
Limits shown are for India and may vary in Bangladesh, Pakistan and Nepal. Withdrawals run by bank transfer from ₹500, usually landing within 24 hours of approval. Verification unlocks withdrawals, so upload your ID straight after your first deposit rather than waiting until you want to cash out.
Under the Online Gaming Act, banks can decline payments they link to money gaming. A rejected UPI transaction usually points to your bank, not to your Parimatch account.
Why is Parimatch not working in India?
Most access problems trace back to one of three causes:
- Domain blocks: internet providers restrict a Parimatch address after a government order under the IT Act
- Payment declines: your bank or UPI app rejects the transaction as gaming-related
- Account holds: pending KYC, a frozen collecting account or scheduled maintenance pauses activity
Plenty of sites recommend VPNs and mirror links as the fix. Mirror domains are the main route for phishing clones, so stick to the official app and the addresses published through Parimatch's own support channels.
Tax on Parimatch winnings in India
Betting winnings are taxed at a flat 30%, plus 4% health and education cess and any applicable surcharge. There is no basic exemption threshold, and losses on other bets cannot be offset against winnings.
Licensed domestic platforms deduct tax at source, but Parimatch does not, because it operates offshore. The liability sits with you: declare net winnings under income from other sources when you file your return, and keep records of deposits, withdrawals and results. For larger amounts, speak to a tax adviser.
How to sign up at Parimatch from India
Betting responsibly on Parimatch
Parimatch offers deposit limits, reality checks, cooling-off periods from one day to six weeks, and temporary or permanent self-exclusion. Several of these are set up through customer support rather than in account settings, so ask for them on day one if you want them.
Fix your budget before you log in, not during a losing run. Raising stakes to recover losses is the quickest way for betting to stop being entertainment, and a few days away from the app is the simplest reset.
